Sunday on the Lake

In continuing with our lovely weekend, on Sunday we packed up the canoe and met another couple out at Chena Lakes for a day of summer leisure. It was an easy paddle to our own little forested island, where we set up a grill and enjoyed assembling and eating some kabobs of shrimp (marinated in ginger and garlic), pineapple, peppers and onions.

Simple, but oh so good.

We played badminton, they tried a little fly fishing, and a great day was had by all. Even Chloe did a little wading, and did a great job for her first time in a boat!

She’s not much of a water dog..

It was great to get my mind off of all the muck and just enjoy a perfect day with some low key people. Hopefully summer will have much more to come!

Serenity.

Clucking Blossom Festival

The summer festivals have kicked off with a small but lovely event called Clucking Blossom. Its an all free festival put on by the college radio station and various other contributers. Along with a variety of bands from across Alaska, they feature an art walk, which is displayed along the forest trails.

Its only one day, from noon to midnight, and unfortunately I had to work that evening so I was only able to attend during the slower part of the event.

Regardless, its a great excuse to get outside and soak in the friendly Fairbanks vibes.

We had a delicious picnic including giant veggie sandwiches, mashed spicy lentils and strawberry lemonade. Yum!

I made a new friend who surprisingly LOVED my lentils.

Look at that luscious grass!
